Here is Rocky's Story...cont'd

June 15, 1999.  I finally received the Hoof Pro powder that I had been waiting for that Joanne was sending me.  I havn't even given him any yet, as I am waiting for usage directions, but I already know in my heart that we will have to put him to sleep.   Tonight when I went out to put Rocky and his mom into the barn for the night, I decided to take off the splint, as he seemed to be limping on it. (He still has the cast on the other leg.)  When I removed the splint, I found a sore on his leg where the splint had been rubbing.  It is not a bad sore, but it should be given the time to air out and heal.  It looks so painful for him to walk on. It never seemed to bother him in the past, but now he is showing definate signs of pain.  I don't know if I will be able to watch the poor little guy stumble around in pain for the next few weeks while waiting for the powder to do it's magic, and then finding out it has done nothing but prolong his agony.  I am really unsure as to which way to turn.  I think I will try to give him a chance with this powder, but if the pain seems to get to be too much for him, I will choose to put him to sleep even if his few weeks aren't up yet.   These pictures were just taken tonight after the removal of his splint.  They clearly show, just how bad his legs are.  He basically is walking on the bottom end of his cannon bone, and the full underside of the hoof can be seen while looking straight on. (The black spot on his right hind foot is the underside, or sole of the hoof!)
